Comprehensive Guide to Growing Baby’s Breath

Delicate, dense and unlike any other flower, Baby’s Breath is a plant that has made its way into the hearts of many flower-fanatics across the globe. Whether added to intricate bouquets or left alone, Baby’s Breath are beautifully elegant plants that can easily fit a wide variety of interiors and tastes. Baby’s Breath are annual flowers, meaning their life cycle lasts only one year, and they are marked by their extremely tender composition. Some of these plants are able to produce pink flowers, but this tends to be a very rare occurrence, as most of the flowers are a pure white color. Baby’s Breath loves warm temperatures, and it is not recommended to plant them before the spring months when the evenings are not warm enough to accommodate their growing requirements. Baby’s Breath is fairly simple to grow and can result in a beautiful addition to both your garden and your home in just months! Follow the simple instructions below and be on your way to growing beautiful flowers today.

As aforementioned, Baby’s Breath prefer warm temperatures and grow best when situated in areas that receive full sunlight and in rich soil. These plants will not grow well if they are planted in clay or sand-like soils, but they prefer alkaline soils, which have high pH levels. Additionally, Baby’s Breath likes moisture and refuses to thrive in dry environments. Be sure to water your Baby’s Breath on a regular basis and pay special attention to them when the weather is particularly dry. When planting your Baby’s Breath seeds, space them around 8 inches apart to allow for optimum growing conditions. However, keep in mind that these plants do not mind overcrowding, and doing so will not compromise the growing process. After planting the seeds, germination should occur between 10 and 15 days. To make this process go by faster, try adding fertilizer to the soil you planted the seeds in. Once germination occurs, the plant will grow rather rapidly, and you will soon be able to pick them if you wish. Fortunately, baby’s breath is not as susceptible to pests, insects or disease as many other plants are, but it is still a good idea to watch out for any intruders who may eat the flowers or dig at the plant’s roots. Once the flowers fully bloom, trim them to make gorgeous corsages, add them to vases and bouquets, or arrange eye-catching flower baskets to make a lovely accent for any home.
