Morning Glory Growing Season

While each variety of morning glory may differ slightly in time to maturity and growing conditions, the following generally applies to all morning glory varieties.

The best time to plant morning glories is in the spring, after the last frost date in your area. You can start morning glories indoors about six weeks before the last frost date. Sow the seeds in a moist potting mix and place them in a sunny spot. Keep the soil moist but not wet, and soon you'll see seedlings emerge. Morning glories grow best when planted in areas that get an average of six to eight hours of direct sunlight a day. Space morning glory seeds about 6 inches apart, and plant them at a depth of about 1 inch. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them so that they're about a foot apart. Morning glories do best in soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8.

On average, it takes 70 to 80 days for morning glories to reach maturity. Space morning glory seeds about six inches apart, and plant them at a depth of about one inch. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them so that they're about a foot apart. To keep them blooming all summer long, deadhead the flowers regularly. This simply means removing spent flowers so that the plant can focus its energy on producing new ones.
