Silver Queen Sweet Corn Growing Season
Silver Queen sweet corn is a warm-weather plant and should be planted in the late spring, at least two weeks after the last frost of the year. Silver Queen corn grows best when planted in areas that get an average of six to eight hours of direct sunlight a day. You should plant your corn seeds about 1 inch deep and 5 to 6 inches apart, in rows that are 2 to 3 feet apart, and in soil with a pH between 5.5 and 7.0.
On average, it takes 92 days for Silver Queen white corn to reach maturity, and you will know that the corn is ready to harvest when the plant has a 12” spread and is 84” to 95” tall. You can tell if corn is ready to harvest by piercing a kernel with your finger. If the liquid is watery, the corn is not ready to harvest. Your corn is ready for harvest when the liquid has a milky consistency.
