Asparagus crowns refer to the top of the asparagus, and the bottom has established some form of root system so that it is ready for planting. Plant the crowns in the soil about 7 inches deep, and create a v-shaped hole.

When your asparagus is new to your vegetable garden, they should be watered with about one to two inches of water the first few weeks. Once they’ve become established, you should only water them when there is little rainfall. The first year of growing your asparagus, the plant should not be harvested.
