| Algaecides |
Algae is single cell plant. Algaecides must come in
contact with each cell. Larger mats should be broken up prior to
treatment. Algaecides work best on bright sunny mornings. Do not use
them if it is overcast or rain is predicted for that day. Water
temperature has to be at least 60 degrees for algaecides to be
effective. Treat for algae beyond the trouble area. New algae forms at
the bottom. By treating beyond the trouble area, you will kill the
algae you can not see yet.

| Filmentous Algae |
Not beneficial. Also known as "pound
scum" or "moss" because it forms greenish mats upon the water's
surface. The texture may be slimy, cottony or coarse. Several total or
spot treatments may be required. Use Cutrine Plus Liquid starting in early May.

| Planktonic Algae |
Not beneficial. Water appears pea soup green or brownish. Usually suspended in the upper few feet of water. Use Cutrine Plus Liquid.

Attached-Erect
(Chara & Nitella) |
Beneficial. This algae is weed like. Best way to
identify it is by its musky odor and gritty, bristly feel. This algae
helps to stabilize bottom sediments, provide good fish habitat, and
crowd out less desirable plants. Use Cutrine Plus Granular.
