Bird feeders are a great way to attract all different kinds of birds to your yard or garden. There are several different types of bird feeders to choose from, and they all depend on what type of bird you’d like to feed. A suet feeder is a wiry, cage like feeder that is designed to hold suet cakes inside of it. When hung up, birds easily perch on the feeder and feed right off of the suet cake. Suet feeders attract birds such as nuthatches and woodpeckers that enjoy this particular type of bird food. Of course, you can always opt for the tradition bird feeder that is usually stocked with a variety of different seeds. These feeders will bring in birds such as robins, cardinals, and finches. A typical bird feeder can be in just about any shape and size, and you can even make one yourself if you like and fill it with a variety of treats for the birds to eat.
If non-traditional bird feeders is more up your alley, you may want to consider buying a hummingbird feeder, otherwise known as a nectar feeder. These kinds of bird feeders are specially designed to hold liquid known as nectar, which is essentially a combination of water and sugar. Nectar feeders are usually plastic so that they are easier to clean. Orioles also enjoy feeding on nectar. If you decide to go this route, mix one part sugar to four parts water. Too much sugar is not good for the birds. No matter which type of bird feeder you choose, it’s an excellent way to get a closer look at the variety of beautiful birds that live in your area. Once you fill the bird feeder up regularly, the birds will continue to come back every season and provide a beautiful backdrop to your garden.
